Survey on Enhanced Publications
A new Survey on Enhanced Publications has been published in LIBER Quarterly Journal: "Enhanced Publications: Data Models and Information Systems" by Alessia Bardi and Paolo Manghi (Istituto di Scienza e Tecnologie dell’Informazione, Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Pisa, Italy).
Enhanced publications are today exploring new frontiers of scholarly communication. They typically address modern needs of scientists to disseminate all assets of their research activities (e.g. papers, datasets, experiments, workflows, material) and/or to have immediate electronic access (e.g. Web 2.0, LOD) to all such scientific material.
The first concrete investigations, trying to come up with a definition for "enhanced publication", were conducted by SURF in the context of the DRIVER-II project: "Enhanced Publications Linking Publications and Research Data in Digital Repositories". Enhanced publications have been further investigated during the OpenAIRE and OpenAIREplus projects, resulting in this article focusing on data models and information systems.
