During this webinar, Oleksandr Berezko (General Board Member at Eurodoc) and Sara Pilia (Equality Working Group Co-coordinator at Eurodoc) will present the Eurodoc Open Science Ambassadors training programme for Early Career Researchers (ECR), and the activities of the Eurodoc Equality Working Group, which aims to remove the barriers encountered by those ECRs who experience exclusion and discrimination. 

Eurodoc

 Eurodoc is the European Council of Doctoral Candidates and Junior Researchers. It is an international federation of 28 national organisations of PhD candidates, and more generally of young researchers from 26 countries of the European Union and the Council of Europe. Eurodoc's mission is to advocate for positive change in the policies, culture and environment that affect the quality of training, well-being and employment conditions of early career researchers (ECRs). More information. 

Eurodoc Open Science Ambassadors

 The Eurodoc Open Science Ambassador Training is a course designed to train researchers in key practices in Open Science. The course was initially aimed at representatives of early-career researchers from National Associations of Eurodoc to act as ambassadors in their networks and is now freely available for all interested researchers and policy makers. Currently there are 24 Ambassadors located in 18 European countries from Ireland to Azerbaijan. The new Ambassadors cohort will be recruited shortly. More information.  

Eurodoc Equality Working Group 

The Eurodoc Equality Working Group was built to support every ECR in development of their career as a researcher, particularly by helping remove the barriers encountered by those ECRs that experience exclusion related to “diversity”. The Working Group adopts an approach that regards discrimination and exclusion as the result of an intersectionality of multiple causes. At present, it is paying special attention to gender and disability issues as causes of discrimination. More information

According to FORCE11, the scholarly commons is an agreement among researchers and other stakeholders in scholarly communication to make research open and participatory for anyoneanywhere. It is not another sharing platform, but a set of principlesconcrete guidance to practice, and actions towards inclusivity of diverse perspectives from around the globe.

In this webinar, we investigate OpenAIRE's role in achieving this scholarly commons, through our work concerning the OpenAIRE Guidelines on metadata interoperability, as well as publication models and services for the Open Access Transformation.

Dominique Babini

Dominique Babini is from Argentina, holds a doctorate in political science and a postgraduate degree in information science. Open access and open science advisor, and previously repository developer and manager, at the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), a network of 736 research institutions in 52 countries, where she now coordinates CLACSO's open access/open science International Campaign.

Janneke Adema

Janneke Adema is an Assistant Professor in Digital Media at the Centre for Postdigital Cultures at Coventry University. In her research she explores the future of scholarly communications and experimental forms of knowledge production, where her work incorporates processual and performative publishing, radical open access, scholarly poethics, media studies, book history, cultural studies, and critical theory. She explores these issues in depth in her various publications, but also by supporting a variety of scholar-led, not-for-profit publishing projects, including the Radical Open Access Collective, Open Humanities Press, ScholarLed, and Post Office Press (POP). She is currently Co-PI on the Community-Led Open Publication Infrastructures for Monographs (COPIM) project (copim.ac.uk). You can follow her research on openreflections.wordpress.com.

Tom Olyhoek

Tom Olyhoek has been living and working  in Africa during many years. Since 2012 he is advocating open access and open science as Open Access working group coordinator for Open Knowledge International. In 2013 he became a member of the (DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) advisory board who were instrumental in redefining the criteria for being indexed in DOAJ. Since 2014 he is Editor in Chief at the DOAJ. From jan 2018 his main task has been the managing of the global DOAJ ambassador program and global outreach activities including connecting to other open
communities like the Creative Commons Global Network and OCSD Net. From 2019-2021 the program has a special focus on Africa. He is also a member of Force11 where he teaches at the yearly Force11 Summer School on the topic of how to evaluate scientific quality for journals, articles and individual scholars His current research interests are, copyright and licensing in open access publishing, development of new ways to assess the quality of scholars and scholarly works and follow research in the area of soil microbiology in relation to soil health and human health (microbiome research).

L’emergenza sanitaria da Covid-19 ha reso evidente la necessità di collaborare a livello globale. Per trovare soluzioni rapide ed efficaci alla pandemia è doveroso condividere nel modo più aperto possibile dati, pubblicazioni, software e altre tipologie di risultati scientifici. Se ne parlerà in una serie di webinar e tutorial organizzati dai nodi italiani di OpenAIRE, ELIXIR, RDA e EOSC Pillar.

I webinar hanno l'obiettivo di sensibilizzare la comunità scientifica sull’importanza della condivisione dei dati per monitorare l’evoluzione della pandemia Covid-19 e, soprattutto, per la ricerca di una cura efficace. Saranno messe in evidenza disomogeneità e incongruenze nella raccolta dei dati molecolari, epidemiologici e clinici, per poi illustrare strumenti e buone pratiche dell’Open Science e dell’Open Access. 

I tutorial saranno eventi formativi in cui si mostreranno soluzioni specifiche per condividere diversi tipi di dati omici e altri prodotti della ricerca, quali software di analisi e protocolli.

Tutorial: Covid-19 e condivisione dei dati. Come gestire i dati omici - prima e seconda parte

Due tutorial saranno dedicati ai diversi tipi di dati “omici” rilevanti per lo studio e l’analisi di SARS-CoV-2 (e.g.: virus/host genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, structural data) e per ciascuno di essi saranno mostrati:

  • i vantaggi della condivisione dei dati
  • raccomandazioni/linee-guida/procedure per il processamento e la condivisione dei dati in archivi pubblici
  • come rendere i dati FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable)

We are pleased to announce that guest speaker of this webinar is legal expert Prodromos Tsiavos, Legal Adviser of "Athena" Research & Innovation Center.

The purpose of the webinar is to provide a brief overview of policies and the European legislation around IPR as well as to show how these might influence the designing of institutional and national Open Science policies. In this regard, emphasis will be given to Directive 2019/790 on intellectual property in the Digital Single Market, Directive 2019/1024 on Open Data, the European Data Policy, the White Paper on Artificial Intelligence, and the European Commission's proposal for the EOSC Partnership. All of the aforementioned policy and legislative texts will be discussed in the context of broader European Digital Policies. Finally, it will be examined how they can lead to concrete actions for improving and strengthening policies at institutional and national level.

The webinar will be recorded and all related material (slides, recordings, Q&As) will be shared with everyone afterwards.

Our goal is to detect planets in orbit around distant stars from Kepler's mission data, following the Reading Method using two programs written by our team in programme language C. Interoperability in EOSC: OpenAIRE Guidelines for repositories

Athena Research Center and University of Cyprus Library, in the context of joint activities performed for OpenAIRE and NI4OS-Europe, organize a webinar to inform about repositories’ interoperability within the EOSC ecosystem. The webinar is part of the regular series of the Greek and Cypriot NOADs that aim to spread awareness to and facilitate adoption of important and relevant Open Science principles by their academic and research communities. 

This month the focus is on best practices for institutional and thematic repositories and on compliance with standards and protocols that enable effective and lossless information exchange between heterogeneous systems.

We are pleased to announce that guest speakers of this webinar are Antonis Lempesis and Stefania Martziou, Research Associates at Athena Research Center and members of the OpenAIRE technical team. 


Accessing scientific results which are available on digital infrastructures, such as repositories, is an important Open Science practice. Adoption of policies and standards as well as training for using repositories enhance, among other things, accessibility, findability and reusability of scientific outputs. Lately, there is a growing need for research data and services/ infrastructures which produce, share and preserve this data to follow the FAIR principles. However, data heterogeneity could have a negative effect on interoperability of systems. A solution to this challenge is provided by OpenAIRE for over ten years now, through specialised services which are also supported by NI4OS-Europe and EOSC. 


Repository managers will have the opportunity to be informed and explore:

  • the OpenAIRE Guidelines for enhancing interoperability
  • the Validator service for assessing repositories’ interoperability

Niamh Brennan, Trinity College Dublin and OpenAIRE NOAD in Ireland, talks about Ireland’s experience with its National Open Science Strategy and Plan S: the scholarly publishing landscape in Ireland, Ireland’s Open Access Repository Network and National Open Access Research Portal http://rian.ie, HRB Open Research, National Open Research Forum, mapping national OA Policy to Plan S (1st iteration), National Framework on the Transition to an Open Research Environment – ‘Plan S-friendly’ – but its primary concern is to be more ‘Irish research-friendly, ‘AmeliCA-friendly’ – in terms of its emphasis on academy-based infrastructures and on  alternatives to fee-based publishing and supportive of scholarly communication initiatives in the Global South, stressing equity, bibliodiversity and revisiting the issues of copyright and licences, immediate Open Access & Choice of Open Access Route calling to end publisher embargoes on researchers self-archiving their AAMs, and diamond publishing. Un seminario sull’Open Science e gli strumenti per aprire la conoscenza

Organizzato da IGG e ISTI attraverso il National Open Access Desk di OpenAIRE, il seminario intende guardare al mondo dell’Open Science dal punto di vista specifico delle scienze della Terra e dell’ambiente.

Quali sono le ragioni alla base delle politiche europee sull’Open Science e come si declinano nello specifico delle scienze della Terra? Nel seminario in programma per il 14 maggio si parlerà delle motivazioni che spingono ad adottare pratiche per rendere la scienza più aperta e trasparente, con un taglio disciplinare specifico, quello appunto delle discipline della Terra e dell’ambiente. 

Il seminario Open Science: come dare accesso aperto alla conoscenza, Un focus sulle scienze della Terra e dell’ambiente affronterà gli aspetti di base e fornirà alcuni strumenti pratici, tra cui:

  • le motivazioni alla base dell’Open Science
  • l’Open Access alla letteratura scientifica
  • la gestione dei dati della ricerca (aspetti legali, dati FAIR e dati open)
  • l’Open Science e le infrastrutture europee per le scienze della Terra e dell’ambiente.

Saranno fornite indicazioni su strumenti e buone pratiche utili a inserire la scienza aperta nel ciclo quotidiano della ricerca, mostrandone i vantaggi e le implicazioni etiche. Una parte del seminario sarà dedicata agli obblighi previsti dai finanziamenti della Commissione Europea in H2020 e nel prossimo programma quadro Horizon Europe. Inoltre si getterà uno sguardo ai  passi compiuti in questi anni dalla Commissione Europea a favore della Open Science, anche attraverso la costituzione di Infrastrutture di ricerca dedicata alle scienze della Terra e dell’ambiente.

Il seminario durerà 1 ora e 30 minuti, seguiti da altri 30 minuti per le domande e la discussione.

Il seminario è pensato per ricercatori afferenti al dipartimento di scienze della Terra e dell’ambiente del CNR e in generale per tutto il personale di ricerca che lavora su progetti finanziati dalla Commissione Europea.
