University of Malta

L-Università ta' Malta

Mission

The UM Library was responsible for implementing Open Science practices and principles at the UM.  To this effect, an Open Science Department was set up to support UM academics and researchers with the dissemination of the intellectual output, research and data.  The UM Library was also responsible for implementing an OA Institutional Repository which was branded as OAR@UM.  Moreover, since this is the sole IR on the Maltese Islands, its remit has also been expanded to serve as a National Repository.  Moreover, an OA Policy for the UM was implemented which stipulates that all research output generated by the UM has to be uploaded on the IR.

Contribution to Open Science

Through the past years, the University of Malta (UM) strived to implement Open Science practices particularly Open Access to ensure that research generated under the auspices of the University is disseminated and made available to a wider audience without financial, legal or technical barriers.

Now that OA has been entrenched at the UM, our next objective is to focus on Research Data Management.  Subsequently, the Library is currently in the process of drafting a RDM Policy for the UM.  Moreover, research is currently being done to identify the best practices pertaining to Open Data and the implementation of an Open Data repository for the UM.
