UKBJPGIn Slovakia there is currently no consolidated institutional repository. There are some modest experiments only, but neither routine in real practice – nor in theory. The library is experimenting with Greenstone, Kramerius and similar tools for creating smaller digital libraries − especially for digitized documents, and uses Metalib and the Virtua VTLS library system. The University Library in Bratislava is a State scientific library, and functions as an independent legal entity, founded and financed by the Ministry of Culture (separate from the Universities and the Ministry of Education). In fact, neither the Comenius University in Bratislava, nor the Slovak Technical University have a central library − therefore the University Library in Bratislava fulfils many functions, even statewide (legal copy, ISSN agency, ILL centre, etc.). Further details are available at ( The Open Access Area and the proposed project fits in the long-term development strategy of the institution and corresponding roles in the scope of the whole Slovak Republic.
