What is the right global approach/balance for OA?

The Knowledge Societies Division, Communication and Information Sector (KSD/CI) of UNESCO and the Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR) have released a joint statement on implemenation for Open Access, reasserting their commitment to advance the Open Access agenda within the broader context of sustainable development through optimal resource sharing.

As global experience has shown  there is no “one-size-fits-all” solution to implementing open acces. UNESCO and COAR point out that it is imperative for governments and the research community to encourage a variety of approaches to the implementation of OA, for a fairer, healthier and more innovative ecosystem for scholarly publishing.
